A Tulsa man dies and his wife is hospitalized after suffering from what officials say was carbon monoxide poisoning in their East Tulsa apartment.
The couple reportedly complained of breathing problems and called for help.
53 year old Larry Everett died.
51 year old Tammy Everett is hospitalized and taken into intensive care.
After learning that one of the patients had high levels of carbon monoxide, Tulsa fire crews went to the couple’s apartment at Plaza Hills East near 129th East Avenue and 21st Street and found carbon monoxide levels five times above what is considered safe around the stove.
There were several others inside the couple’s East Tulsa apartment that were not injured.
Officials urge everyone to install a carbon monoxide detector in their home.
Following news of the deadly carbon monoxide poisoning, the American Red Cross released information about the symptoms.
Carbon monoxide poisoning is dangerous because you can’t smell, taste, or see it, and therefore you cannot tell that carbon monoxide is present.
The initial symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning are similar to the flu (but without fever). They include: headache, sleepiness, fatigue shortness of breath, nausea, and dizziness.
